Iraq's chief prosecutor has filed a complaint against several legislators accused of corruption.

Earlier this week, Defense Minister Khalid al-Obaidi accused speaker Salim al-Juburi and other lawmakers of corruption while he was himself being questioned in parliament over graft allegations.

A spokesman for Iraq's judiciary, Abd al-Sattar Bayraqdar, said on August 3 that Judge Muhammad al-Janabi filed a complaint against "all those whose names were mentioned" by Obaidi during the questioning.

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has directed the country's anticorruption body to investigate the matter and ordered a "temporary travel ban" against those accused.

Abadi has faced growing antigovernment protests demanding reform and calling for a fight against rampant corruption.
