In Dollo Ado, UNHCR initiated an innovative pilot project, the IDEAS BOX, a multi-media library, for Somali refugee children and youth. The project is implemented by Save the Children and Libraries without Borders, in coordination with UNHCR Innovations Unit in Geneva.
Facilitated by the government refugee agency-the Administration for Refugee-Returnee Affairs (ARRA) this novel project is the first of its kind in the East and Horn of Africa region. The Ideas Box contains books, ICT devices (tablets, laptops and e-readers), including audio and cinema components. It is a versatile tool to empower refugees through promoting access to information, culture, education and skills building. This will contribute to enhance the protection and development of children and the youth of both genders.
Specialized trainers, from Libraries without Borders, have started a training program for 20 participants from the refugee youth and teachers from the educational partners, in Melkadida and Bokolmanyo camps, on how to use the ICT devises, manage the components of the Ideas Box and design the activities grid.
