About the contribution of the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid
Thanks to the generous contribution of EUR 25 million by the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid, UNHCR is supporting the Greek government to provide protection and assistance to refugees and migrants in mainland Greece, according to international standards.
Given its refugee and protection mandate, UNHCR focuses on a wide range of activities in line with the Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan. Thanks to European Commission – Humanitarian Aid funding, in particular, UNHCR has been working on six main areas in mainland Greece.
These are: Emergency water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions, provision of non-food items, upgrading of existing shelter solutions and site standards, coordination, information management products and child protection services in all sites.

Supporting refugee families in mainland Greece
With the generous contribution of EUR 25 million from the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid, UNHCR is supporting the Greek authorities in assisting refugees and migrants in mainland Greece. In Nea Kavala, among other activities, UNHCR focuses on families and children through a “Blue Dot Hub”, namely a center offering protection, psychosocial support and recreation. In Diavata, distributions of basic relief items and shelter upgrading interventions help the refugees prepare for the upcoming winter.
