UNHCR is replacing tents with prefabricated houses on eight refugee sites across Greece to accommodate people in winter, with support from the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid.
UNHCR’s work to make official refugee sites fit for winter is based on four pillars:
- Replacement of tents with prefab houses on 8 sites.
- Transfer of people staying in sites not suitable for the winter to hotels at special rates and temporary apartments.
- Upgrading and maintenance of the infrastructure on 15 sites.
- Delivery of winter items such as winter jackets and sleeping bags.
