Georgia

Despite steps taken to deepen ties with the European Union including commitments to progress on human rights, Georgia continues to struggle with issues of discrimination and accountability. Investigations into past abuses by government officials and others have raised some questions regarding selective justice and politically motivated prosecutions. Lack of accountability for abuses by law enforcement officials remains a problem, as Georgia does not have an independent effective mechanism for investigating crimes committed by law enforcements officials. While in 2014 the parliament adopted an anti-discrimination bill that provides for protection against discrimination, minority and women rights remain a concern in Georgia.
