Mali

The human rights climate in Mali worsened as a result of a significant increase in violence and a marked deterioration in security. Despite a 2015 peace agreement, designed to end the military and political crisis in the north, violence in the north has spread into several southern regions. Rule of law institutions countrywide are weak, in part due to corrupt practices and inadequate resources. Endemic corruption impeded Malians’ access to basic health care and education. Malian authorities have made scant effort to hold accountable those implicated in serious abuses committed during the 2012-2013 armed conflict.
