About Osvaldo

Actor, Osvaldo Laport was appointed the first UNHCR Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Latin America in 2006.

The charismatic Uruguayan moved to Argentina to study acting in 1976, and from a stage career in Buenos Aires he moved on to international acclaim after lead roles in soap operas on the small screen. Laport has used his following and influence to vigorously champion the cause of refugees and helped raise awareness of UNHCR’s work in the Spanish-speaking world.

He has met refugees and internally displaced people in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Lebanon.
