UNHCR’s overall objective in Malta is to advocate for access to protection on appropriate terms, and promote durable solutions for all persons of concern.

The Office monitors the situation of persons of concern, in detention and open centres as well as the community, and advocates for further development of a protection-sensitive asylum system and related policies.

UNHCR continues to advocate for stronger efforts to facilitate local integration, through projects and pilot initiatives to facilitate refugees’ engagement with Maltese society, based on analysis and research through an age, gender and diversity lens.
