New Year events allow children to better integrate

December 28, 2011 - Today UNHCR conducted a New Year event for refugee children. More than 70 of them came to one of the famous and prestigious Almaty theatres to see the performance and take part in the New Year entertainment round dance.

Children watched the fairy tale performance in Kazakh and Russian languages, participated in dancing performance of different nations of Central Asia and sung famous New Year songs with their parents.

“Not all parents can afford to buy tickets for New Year performances. This kind of events make holiday brighter for children. What is important is to provide them with opportunities to integrate locally, to know more about the culture of the host communities and to find new friends” - said Saber Azam, Regional Representative/Regional Coordinator for Central Asia.
