Regional Representative discusses refugee issues with the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan

Mr. Bernard Doyle, UNHCR Regional Representative/Regional Coordinator for Central Asia, met with Mr. Erlan Idrissov, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan on 6 May.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed commitment to UN goals, human rights and protection of refugees as priorities for Kazakhstan. He underlined that Kazakhstan will remain an active partner of UNHCR and intends to strengthen cooperation in the field of refugee protection and mixed migration.

Mr. Bernard Doyle stressed the high level of cooperation between UNHCR and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, underlining UNHCR's support to the initiative of making Almaty a regional hub for humanitarian action. Mr. Doyle thanked the Minister for continuation of activities and chairing the Almaty Process on mixed migration and refugee protection.

Mr. Bernard Doyle expressed gratitude to the Government of Kazakhstan for contribution in solving the issues of refugees and asylum seekers in Kazakhstan.
