Mohammed a refugee boy dreams to become a football player

Mohammed Rasul (11) a refugee boy from Afghanistan has a dream. He wants to become a prominent football player. Being born in Afghanistan, at the age of six, he and his family had to leave Afghanistan because of Taliban persecution. He does not remember anything about Afghanistan, but happy that his family found safety in Kazakhstan, country of asylum. Muhammed’s first impression about Kazakhstan was snow. “We have snow in Afghanistan, but not so much. We were freezing, but having a lot of fun, wallowing in the snow” – he remembers his first day in Kazakhstan with a smile.

As all children, he is naughty, but studies well. He had to overcome a language barrier, but now gets only excellent marks at school. “I have a lot of friends, among them are Kazakhs, Russians, Turks and others. I am glad that I am living in a multicultural country. We like to live here. We are a happy and a big family. The only dream I have is to become a football player, and play for Kazakhstan football team”- says Mohammed.

Each day war forces thousands of families to flee their homes.
People like you, people like me.

To escape the violence, they leave everything behind – everything except their hopes and dreams for a safer future. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency believes that all refugees deserve to live in safety.
