“I was no longer Munjed…I lost my human identity. My name was stripped off me and I was given 982 as a number for the rest of the time that I spent in the detention centre.”

Dr Munjed Al Muderis joined us as the keynote speaker at our 2016 World Refugee Day celebrations in Canberra. Dr Al Muderis was detained in Curtin Detention Centre for over nine months before being recognised as a refugee and rebuilding his life in the Australian community. While Curtin Detention centre is now closed, over 2000 vulnerable men, women and children remain in limbo on Manus Island and Nauru.
