Capacity Building
UNHCR uses it expertise to build the capacity of its own staff, as well as the capacity of project partners and government partners
To ensure that all services provided to refugees are of the highest standards, UNHCR as the lead agency responsible for assisting refugees, uses it expertise to build the capacity of its own staff, as well as the capacity of project partners and government partners, in all sectors of operation – ranging from protection, human rights, gender equality, child protection, prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), site planning, water and sanitation, supply and logistics, etc.
UNHCR Rwanda regularly conducts trainings throughout each year. In 2015, we have led capacity building in the following areas:
- Developing a training curriculum for the police who work in camp settings
- Training the National Refugee Status Commission
- Training, mentoring project partner staff in SGBV
- Preparing for an emergency influx of refugees – “simulation” exercise
- Code of Conduct and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA)
