VANCOUVER 2010: 2nd Coordination Commission Visit To Vancouver
The Coordination Commission for the XXI Olympic Winter Games – Vancouver 2010 will begin its second visit to the Canadian host city on 6 April 2005. The visit will last for two days and will see the Commission review the Organising Committee’s (OCOG) progress so far. This will also be the first time that the full Coordination Commission will have the opportunity to meet with Vancouver 2010’s new senior management team in Vancouver.
Key areas and venues
The Coordination Commission meeting will cover a number of key areas at this stage in the development of an OCOG, including venues, infrastructure, sport, marketing and transport, as well as a more general overview of Vancouver 2010’s current situation. During the visit, the members of the Commission will also be able to see at first hand the sites of some of the venues that will be used during the Games.
Vancouver visits
Prior to the Coordination Commission’s meetings in Vancouver, Chairman René Fasel and Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli were accompanied by IOC Sports Director Kelly Fairweather to the Curling World Championships currently underway in Victoria, British Colombia. They also attended the opening of the new Vancouver headquarters for the International Triathlon Union.
The role of the Coordination Commission
The Olympic Games Coordination Commission is formed shortly after the election of a host city to oversee and assist the OCOG in the planning and implementation of the Olympic Games. The Coordination Commission includes representatives of the IOC, the IPC, the IFs, the NOCs and an athlete representative, as well as experts in specific fields.
Vancouver 2010
Vancouver will host the XXI Olympic Winter Games from 12 to 28 February 2010. The mountain events will take place in Whistler, which will also host the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games from 12 to 21 March 2010.
