Buenos Aires celebrates Olympic Day!
In a city that lives for sport, music and culture, it’s no surprise that Olympic Day in Buenos Aires was celebrated in style by the future host city of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), to be held in October 2018.
The Olympic Day event took place in Parque Tres de Febrero on Saturday 25 June. The park is located in the neighbourhood of Palermo, which will be one of the spots where the YOG will be held in just over two years. More than 2,000 people attended the event. The participants were able to try out lots of different sports, as 35 sports federations were present to showcase their sport and invite people to have a go.
Notable attendees included Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodriguez Larreta and AOC President and IOC Member Gerardo Werthein. Several Argentine Olympic athletes were present as well: Jennifer Dahlgren presented her children's book on bullying, Ariel Suarez and Miguel Correa gave a talk, and Federico Molinari, Juan Curuchet and Walter Perez did not want to miss this exciting celebration and got active with all the other participants!
Rio 2016 had a stand and participated with Portuguese lessons, two music bands and a capoeira group. Partners were active as well, with Coca-Cola having talks on the importance of hydration in sport, Dow with a stand that included a laboratory for children, and General Electric gave a talk where they had a retrospective on previous editions of Olympic Day.
In summary, families and friends had a great day full of music, sport and fun, representative of everything Buenos Aires 2018 is.
