IOC Coordination Commission begins second visit to Tokyo
Tomorrow, the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Coordination Commission will begin its second full visit to Tokyo, the host city for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Led by its Chair, John Coates, the Commission will spend two days (30 June – 1 July) in the Japanese capital visiting Games venues and meeting with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and the local authorities. The meetings will focus on Tokyo 2020’s progress and its plans for the future.
The IOC’s Coordination Commission represents different stakeholders of the Olympic Movement including the athletes, National Olympic Committees, International Federations, and the IOC membership.
There is also a representative of the International Paralympic Committee on the Commission, as the Paralympic Games are organised by the same Organising Committee as the Olympic Games and use many of the same venues for the Paralympic competitions.
The Commission can also boast a number of Olympians and Olympic medallists amongst its number, ensuring that the needs of the athletes will be well taken care of over the coming years of preparations.
