Kenya: UN refugee chief sees opportunity with Kakuma

While in Kenya, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi visited Kakuma refugee camp, home to nearly 200,000 refugees, primarily from South Sudan. He also toured a new site, Kalobeyei, where refugees share services, farm the land and build businesses with locals.

Many of the refugees that talked to the High Commissioner said that they would like to rerun home to Somalia but that repatriation should be done in a dignified and humane manner. They also voiced their wish for a continued investment by the international community in the Dadaab refugee camps.  © UNHCR/Siegfried Modola
