Who I am

My name is Alex Flemming.
I was born in 1954 in São Paulo. I live in São Paulo and Berlin.

I do not have an official website.
I always invite people to Google-my-name, I think it is much more complete and vast.

My presence at The Olympic Museum means the honour to present my work portraying Brazilian way of live.

My plans for the future? I will work+work+work, paint+paint+paint. With gusto (pleasure)!

My art work

  • Rio de Janeiro Art Museum in 2008
  • The National Gallery of Rio de Janeiro in 2010

Background

The key stages in my artistic career were Fulbright Grant for painting - New York and Sao Paulo Biennale

The typical features of my artistic approach are those of Post-Modern.

My influences are photography + street art.

Materials

The material I use mostly is painting on canevas.

The city of Rio, sport and the Olympic Games

The city of Rio inspires me because it is the most beautiful city in the world (I do mean it).

Sport inspires me because I always played sports myself.

For me, the Rio Olympic Games are hope for a better future.

For Alex Flemming differences in skin colour are irrelevant. The bodies and faces of his figures merge into the background of the paintings. Born in São Paulo, the artist now lives in Berlin.

He produces large paintings using bright, flashy metallic colours. Visitors will find them in various parts of The Olympic Museum.
