Please note that Zardust is the prophet of Zoroastrians. Zardushtis, which means Zoroastrians in Persian (Farsi), could be the name of a minority group in Afghanistan. Sources currently available to the DIRB do not provide information on the Zardushtis (Zoroastrians) in Afghanistan. However, the attached section of Encyclopedia of the Third World refers to a religious minority group in Afghanistan called Parsis, which could be another name for the Zardushtis. Please note that Parsis, which means Persians (Iranians) in Persian, are Iranian Zardushtis who in the centuries following the Arab occupation of Iran and the subsequent implementation of policy of forced conversion to Islam, left Iran for the Indian subcontinent in order to keep their religion.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
