UNHCR Cyprus plays an advisory role in order to protect the rights and welfare of asylum seekers and refugees.

UNHCR, among others, provides legal advice, training and other support to the authorities so as to improve the reception and integration conditions for refugees; submits comments on legislation affecting refugees; supports the competent officers to examine asylum applications in accordance with international law and practice; monitors respect for refugee rights; conducts public information and education activities in order to enhance awareness on refugee issues and to promote positive public attitudes towards forcibly displaced people.

UNHCR collaborates with NGOs to provide legal and other advice to asylum seekers and refugees.
