With his exceptional voice and instrumental skills, musician George Dalaras has always been at the forefront of innovation in contemporary Greek music. At home, he began performing in public at the tender young age of 16. But his popularity goes well beyond Greece, and Dalaras has released more than 85 solo albums, selling in the millions worldwide.
Aside from his internationally acclaimed music, Dalaras has won plaudits for his support of worthy causes and concern with social issues. His compositions - poignant expressions of protest, social indignation and hope - set him apart from most musicians and account for his following.
Dalaras was named as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in October 2006 and has since visited refugees in Africa and shown solidarity with asylum-seekers and refugees in Greece.
