Colombian journalist Diana Romero shares her story for World Refugee Day in the video below:
“In Ecuador there is a large amount of Colombian refugees. But an unknown fact that is that the second largest population of refugees here in Guayaquil is from Cuba. So we talked with one of them, who was a refugee here in Ecuador for his political beliefs, like many of them. “Guillermo” (we used a different identity to talk about his case) worked as a part time security guard in northern Guayaquil. He also worked occasional odd jobs, and in the report he talked about how hard it was to support himself economically as a refugee, while living here in the city without having permanent work. He also talked about all the difficulties of being far from his family and his homeland, as well as leaving his children in another country.”
