About Muazzez
Turkish singer Muazzez Ersoy was appointed a UNHCR National Goodwill Ambassador in 2006.
Muazzez has long been interested in humanitarian issues, including the plight of refugees and displaced persons, with a particular concern for the welfare of women and children. Her mother's family came from the Salonika region of Greece but was forced to leave for Turkey in the first half of the 20th century.
Muazzez has visited refugee families in the central Anatolian cities of Kayseri and Aksaray, listening to their problems and sharing her family's experience with them. She regularly supports the work of UNHCR in Greece through public statements and media, raising awareness about the suffering of displaced people around the world.
