I am now a proud Sociology graduate from the University of Dodoma.

He fled the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“My name is Bwiselelo Abedi. I am 30 years old and fled to Nyarugusu camp in 1997 because of ethnic war in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). I reside in Nyarugusu with my wife Happy and our three girls, Neema (11), Mary (10) and Glory (7).

I have been fortunate to continue my education in Tanzania through DAFI, a scholarship programme by the German Government which enables refugees to undertake post-secondary education in their host countries. I am now a proud Sociology graduate from the University of Dodoma, class of 2011. In 2013, I received another scholarship by the African Union to undertake a Masters in Governance and Regional Integration at the Pan African University in Yaounde (Cameroon), graduating in December 2015.

It has not been easy returning to Nyarugusu camp after graduation seeing as I got a job offer in Cameroon but had to decline because I had left my family behind in the camp. My aspirations are to return home someday. In the meantime, I would really like to find a meaningful job and hope refugees will be allowed to work soon. After all, I have the qualifications.”
