Greece
UNHCR supports Greek authorities in their efforts to reform the asylum system and enhance the quality of the asylum procedure. It works closely with the EU Commission, EASO, NGOs and other institutions to ensure the protection of refugees, asylum seekers and other persons under its mandate. It strives to ensure that access to territory is improved and risk of refoulement reduced.
It pursues advocacy and capacity building activities targeting law enforcement authorities thus promoting protection-sensitive border management policies. UNHCR seeks to inform and sensitize the public to create a climate of tolerance and respect for the rights of refugees mitigating feelings of xenophobia. It coordinates jointly with the National Commission for Human Rights the Racist Violence Recording Network.
