The European Commission (EC) supports UNHCR's activities through earmarked contributions and was our second largest donor in 2008, trailed only by the United States.
We work closely with several EC departments to increase support for refugees, internally displaced people and stateless people around the world.
The most significant EC support helps our operations in Africa and Asia, with smaller but important contributions to programmes in Latin America, the Middle East and Europe, including some through the European Refugee Fund.
