Roman Vital’s Story, Switzerland

As partner and jury member of FIFDH (Festival International du Film des Droits de l’Homme) for the first time, UNHCR rewarded the producer of the best documentary on refugees, asylum-seekers, IDPs and stateless persons in the 12th annual ceremony of the festival on 20 March. UNHCR’s award went to Roman Vital for his documentary “Life in Paradise”, which strove to objectively portray the life of rejected asylum-seekers in a Swiss mountain village as well as the opinions on the villagers living in their neighbourhood.

“I met the two refused asylum seekers from Nigeria during the shooting of my film Life in Paradise. I was impressed by how they spoke of the obstacles to attaining asylum.”
