Results/Impact | Refugees living in Rio are referred to the public Hospital dos Servidores do Estado by UNHCR’s implementing partner. Hospital employees are specially trained in issues related to refugees and the hospital has special procedures in place for asylum-seekers and refugees. The social work unit of the hospital is responsible for receiving refugees and to schedule the necessary appointments, following initial medical evaluations. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | Asylum-seekers and refugees are cared for by qualified staff who provide better service and take into account the specific needs of people who have just arrived in the country medical vulnerabilities and who come from different cultural backgrounds. |
