Objectif(s) | In coordination with the Mexico City government, this house serves as a meeting place for activities that facilitate the local integration of persons of concern. Mexican volunteer groups organize these activities with the refugee population. |
Results/Impact | Free Spanish classes are given at Casa Espacio de los Refugiados to the population of concern. Meetings and workshops are organized with different groups (Colombians, Haitians, women, elderly, children and adolescents, etc.), and they allow identifying specific protection and integration needs, and looking for more personalized actions to address their problems. Activities include group savings (microcredit) and socio-cultural activities. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | Allows direct contact with the population of concern, which leads to a better understanding of their rights, legal remedies, and services and support available in Mexico. It also involves the host community and long-term refugees to help newcomers. |
