Objectif(s) | Protection against violence and exploitation. Strengthening the comprehensive care of victims of SGBV. |
Results/Impact | The legal area of the Federación de Mujeres de Sucumbios (FMS) has been strengthened through the hiring of a female lawyer specializing in sexual offenses and administrative support staff to provide free legal advice. The legal area of Casa Paula, in the Orellana province, has also been strengthened through the hiring of a female lawyer. Women victims of domestic and/or sexual violence receive legal attention specialized in the treatment of sexual offences and have better access to public health. The high level of impunity surrounding sexual offenses in the provinces of Sucumbios and Orellana has been reduced. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | Despite the high incidence of SGVB in the provinces of Sucumbios and Orellana, especially against refugee women, the local network of protection was weak and lacked the resources to provide ongoing legal assistance. The development of this project has created mechanisms to combat impunity, reduce the invisibility of these situations and thereby generate in the State institutions higher involvement in the protection of victims. Thus facilitates access to justice for refugee women, asylum-seekers and the host population. |
