Objectif(s) | Develop economic initiatives for women through the formation of Savings and Credit Banks with a gender approach and support women’s economic independence to enable them to enter the workforce. |
Results/Impact | A study and survey of baseline was carried out during the first half of 2011 for the identification of women’s associations who would benefit from this project. During the second half women’s organizations in the cantons of Lago Agrio and Sucumbios benefited from Savings and Credit Banks with a support strategy to enable them to develop economic initiatives that are viable, profitable and sustainable. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | The widespread exclusion of women from the labour market in Sucumbíos associated with the traditions of reliance on family/marriage, led to victims of domestic violence without opportunities for self-support and independence from the perpetrator. This project thereby not only provides savings and credit options to support economic initiatives, but also allows the strengthening partnership to reduce the vulnerability of Ecuadorian and refugee women. |
