Results/Impact | One hundred people attended the opening; and in the following days, 150 more saw the exhibition and in the following days, 300 more showed their interest via social networks. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | The refugees expressed their experiences through photos and interviews developed in order to summarize in a sentence the essence of their businesses. That sentence was used under the respective photographs. The photographer was a very popular artist amongst a segment of the public that is key for UNHCR in this project: young people. A public opinion poll showed that young people were the segment that had the worse opinion regarding refugees. So this activity brought together a lot of followers of the artist who did not know the reality of the refugees. Additionally, the exhibition showed, through the refugees’ testimony and the participation of UNHCR personnel, the urgency and importance of asylum-seekers to obtain employment. Politics and art went hand in hand to create a well-rounded activity. |
