Objectif(s) | UNHCR’s implementing partners have developed local partnerships to offer Portuguese language courses free of charge to asylum-seekers and refugees. The educational content of the courses is designed specifically to help asylum-seekers and refugees to gain basic knowledge of the language, in order to interact properly with the local community. |
Results/Impact | The courses are held in different cities across the country, and at different times to facilitate access. The methodology and the number of hours also vary according to availability of the implementing partner. This initiative has contributed to offer Portuguese courses free of charge to asylum-seekers and refugees. |
Why is this considered a Good practice? | The local community is more aware and involved, and can therefore assist in meeting the specific needs of asylum-seekers and refugees on a voluntary and sustainable manner. |
