Until May 2010, ninety-three persons resettled in the country have benefited from this important tool of protection. They represent 19.1% of all resettled refugees living in Brazil.

Why is this considered a Good practice?Fast-track procedures implemented in Brazil since 2005, allow referred refugees to receive a response to their application within 72 hours. In the event of approval by the Brazilian government, the refugee may arrive in the country in a week or the time it takes to handle his/her travel arrangements. UNHCR’s implementing partners are prepared to receive families in about seven days.
