Permanent residence or definitive residence in Brazil can be granted to immigrants whose children have been born in Brazil and who are married to, or in a stable relationship with a Brazilian national or a legal immigrant in Brazil. Permanent residence on the ground of having a stable relationship will be granted only if the non-national is in the country legally. If this is not the case, an application should be made for a permanent visa. It is important to bear in mind that the rules for stable relationships are the same for heterosexuals and homosexuals.
