Today, 19 June 2016, we commemorate the first International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. It is a date set aside, to raise awareness on the need for collective action, to condemn and to end conflict-related sexual violence – which has been used as a weapon of war – inflicting immense physical and psychological injuries on women and children who continue to bear the brunt of the various conflicts on our continent.
With 1 human in every 113 affected, forced displacement hits record high
Conflict and persecution caused global forced displacement to escalate sharply in 2015, reaching the highest level ever recorded and representing immense human suffering, according to a report released today by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
Addis Ababa, June 19/2016 — The regional state of Gambella has assured families of children rescued from the Murle militants that the state government will consolidate efforts of rehabilitating the children.
The rescued children have been receiving various supports since their arrival back to their home ground, according to Chief Administrator of Gambella Gatluak Tut, who said such support and rehabilitation efforts will be maintained.
Executive summary
This study looked at the mental wellbeing of refugees in prisons located in Western Uganda. It arose out of RLP’s routine visits to detention facilities in the region under the objective on providing comprehensive legal aid to forced migrants in Uganda. RLP believed that in order to provide adequate and prompt services to refugee inmates, an understanding of their mental wellbeing was pertinent. The study specifically aimed at;

Juba (ICRC) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today evacuated by air 17 people from the town of Raja following violent clashes there that left dozens of casualties.
The fighting caused several hundred people to flee their homes in search of safety. In the aftermath of the fighting, the town saw large-scale looting. Three vehicles belonging to the Red Cross Movement were stolen.

Sudanese rebels called on the Khartoum government on Saturday to resume peace negotiations in Addis Ababa after it declared a unilateral four-month ceasefire in Blue Nile and South Kordofan.
The two states, which both have large ethnic minority populations, have been wracked by rebellion ever since neighbouring South Sudan broke away in 2011 without any resolution of their grievances.
Highlights
The UN Mission in South Sudan says it is working with the government to ensure it protects children. Speaking at an event to mark the Day of the African Child at the UNMISS compound in Juba, the Deputy Head of the UN Mission in South Sudan, Moustapha Soumaré, said the UN and the government are working together to create an enabling environment for children.
Radio Miraya marked the day of the African children with a fanfare event that brought children from four schools in Juba to take part in Radio presentation, poem recitation and participating in a question and answer session.

TEREKEKA, 16 June 2016
Three flags fly in a dirt lot outside the local administrator’s office in the South Sudanese town of Terekeka. The middle one is especially bright: a new green flag emblazoned with a rhinoceros, the word TEREKEKA printed in white block letters underneath. It was recently raised to replace an older flag using the same design but representing Central Equatorial State.
