Worsening conditions as Syria’s conflict enters 6th year
Millions of people need assistance inside Syria and in the neighboring countries. Nearly 400,000 people in 15 besieged locations do not have access to the aid that they desperately need. After nearly six years of brutal conflict, the Syrian people need help more than ever.
“I wish that … the international community would look closely at the Syrian crisis and help the Syrian people by providing relief to their towns,” said local resident Noureldine, 55, shortly after the UN relief convoy delivered vital food, medicines and other aid to 10,000 residents cut off in East Harasta since early 2012.
What is UNHCR doing to help
The UN Refugee Agency is taking part of the delivery of life-saving aid of food and blankets to thousands of people trapped in dire conditions in besieged Syrian towns. Since the beginning of this year, and benefiting from the cessation of hostilities that began in February, the UN inter-agency efforts have led to over 50 convoys that brought life saving humanitarian supplies to almost 800,000 Syrians in need.
With contributions from its donors, UNHCR provides basic and necessary humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees and helps the most vulnerable families with urgently needed relief - cash for medicine and food, stoves and fuel for heating, insulation for tents, thermal blankets and winter clothing.
We count on people like you to reinforce the dignity of Syria’s displaced and refugee families.
