A Pioneering Research Tool

Refworld is the leading source of information necessary for taking quality decisions on refugee status. It contains a vast collection of reports and information relating to situations in countries of origin, policy documents and positions, and documents relating to international and national legal frameworks. The information has been carefully compiled from UNHCR's global network of field offices, governments, international, regional and non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and judicial bodies. When introduced in the 1990s, Refworld was only available in CD-Rom and DVD formats. It was relaunched in 2007 as an innovative online tool. Easy to use and hugely powerful, it was developed in-house to meet the modern web's highest standards and best practices. Refworld is updated daily and includes special features on topics of importance to UNHCR such as refugee status determination, statelessness, migration, gender equality and women, internally displaced people, resettlement, voluntary repatriation and children.
