On 6 April 2014, as part of their trip to Jordan, the women’s team of FC Bayern Munich visited the Zaatari refugee camp where the players held a training session with 50 Syrian girls. FC Bayern’s goalkeeper Kathrin Längert tells us about her experience in the below video:

“What I will remember most, is our visit to the Zaatari refugee camp yesterday. Because it was a true human story; a humanitarian catastrophe. The political situation is still very complicated. It is something that is happening here and now – and it goes on every day.

It was very impressive to witness how hundred thousand people have to deal with having lost everything, and in spite of that, they keep their courage to face life and to make the best of their current situation. It was also interesting to see how the UN works in such a situation, what you can do, and how you can help.

I really enjoyed the training session with the girls. Of course, it did not change their lives. But I had the impression that for two hours, we could distract their attention away from the fact, that 12 km away from there, bombs explode and that most of the people in the camp still have family, friends and belongings inside Syria. It was a very intense experience.”
