Information on the above-mentioned topic could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, in a telephone conversation on 6 June 1996, an official at the Embassy of Ukraine in Ottawa provided the following information. A foreigner, irrespective of his/her marital status, who desires to live permanently in Ukraine may apply in Ukraine or abroad. Local authorities in Ukraine decide whether the application will be approved, and an applicant's marriage to a Ukrainian citizen would be taken into consideration during the decision-making process.
