Ethnic clashes were reported in October 1998 in the Delta region between the Warri and the Ijaw, and the Ijaw and the Ilaje, but not between the Ijaw and the Yoruba, very few of whom live in the region (The Arizona Republic 25 Oct. 1998; The Orange County Register 25 Oct. 1998; West Africa 9 -22 Nov. 1998).
