In early February 1993 the RSK initiated a recruitment drive among "60,000 able bodied men from Krajina" who were refugees in Yugoslavia (Reuters 9 Feb. 1993). A member of the Serbian Radical Party subsequently told a journalist for The Guardian that his party was rounding up refugees from Krajina and sending them back to serve in the RSK armed forces (17 Feb. 1993).

More recently there have been reports of forced recruitments of refugees in Yugoslavia into other armed forces, including the the Yugoslav army, Serbian paramilitary groups and the armed forces of the "Republic of Srpska" (the Bosnian Serb army) (Tanjug Domestic Service 7 Feb. 1994; UPI 1 Feb. 1994).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
