According to Newsday, "[t]hree Afghan generals, including one jailed in December for plotting President Najibullah's ouster, fled in a plane to Pakistan yesterday as an unlikely joint uprising by U.S.-backed guerrillas and hard-line renegade troops lost ground" (8 March 1990, 1).
