A representative of the high commission for Sri Lanka in Ottawa states that the Travel Section of the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka is in charge of immigration-related issues for Sri Lankan nationals and foreign nationals residing in Sri Lanka (22 Nov. 1993). In addition to other functions, this section issues and renews passports and also issues citizenship documents (Ibid.).
According to a representative of the Tamil Eelam Society of Toronto, the Travel Section of the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka is in charge of all immigration-related issues including the issuance of passports and the extension of visas for foreign nationals (22 Nov. 1993).
