Information Monitor in Colombo states in a 24 April 1995 letter faxed to the DIRB that "there has been no information regarding operations carried out by death squads in recent months". The same source notes, however, that "human rights groups continue to voice their concern regarding the inability of the government to recall weapons issued to politicians and their supporters for their own protection in the years from 1988 onwards."
