Future climate change projections indicate that previously unprecedented extreme weather events may become the norm rather than the exception and it is widely agreed that such events will amplify the risk and challenges of displacement during the 21st century. Our Global Estimates report provides the latest information gathered in 2015 related to displacement caused by disasters including weather related hazards. As COP21 gets underway the Advisory Group on Climate Change and Human Mobility, including IDMC, has produced a set of recommendations to government delegates. The aim is to influence the final version of the Climate Change Agreement that the world's nations are set to sign up to when the conference culminates.

Latest figures from IDMC estimate that more than 19.3 million people were forced to flee their homes by disasters in 100 countries in 2014. Hundreds of thousands more are still displaced following disasters in previous years.
