A Safe Place to Call Home

The IKEA Foundation is UNHCR's largest corporate partner, helping to provide shelter, care, education and energy to refugee and host communities. Since 2010, the IKEA Foundation has committed more than USD 166 million dollars in both cash and in-kind donations to UNHCR's programmes. This strategic partnership has helped create better lives for thousands of refugee families and children.

The partnership aims to achieve this by focusing on:

- Innovative and cost-effective solutions that will increase impact and make the most of resources;

- Strengthening UNHCR's ability to respond through strategic partnership that combines UNHCR's expertise, IKEA Foundation's philanthropic vision, and the IKEA Group's core competencies and customer base;

- Leveraging UNHCR's ability to shape policy and implement programmes at scale, in partnership with governmental and nongovernmental partners.

Through cash grants, in-kind assistance for emergency operations, and the Brighter Lives for Refugees cause-related marketing campaign, the IKEA Foundation is helping hundreds of thousands of refugee children and their families rebuild their lives. It is the corporate supporter of the Nansen Refugee Award, an annual award which recognises an individual, group, or organisation for outstanding service to the cause of refugees and the displaced. Going beyond philanthropy, UNHCR and the IKEA Foundation share a genuine commitment to innovation. The IKEA Foundation supports UNHCR Innovation and has been working with UNHCR to develop a safer, more durable shelter, designed to improve the living conditions of people displaced by natural disasters and conflicts.

The UNHCR-IKEA Foundation partnership shows how global companies can provide solutions that really work, helping UNHCR respond to emergencies, identify and scale new ideas, and create more opportunities for refugees to lead dignified lives.

Since 2014, UNCHR and IKEA Foundation have partnered to run the Brighter Lives for Refugees campaign - a cause related marketing campaign to raise funds for UNHCR. During the first two campaigns, for every LED light bulb sold during the campaign period, the IKEA Foundation donated Є1 to refugees. During the third campaign, for every LED product sold, including bulbs and lamps, Є1 will be donated to refugees. The funds will help improve access to lighting, renewable energy solutions and primary education in refugee camps in parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The third phase of this campaign will take place from November 29 - December 19. To know more about this campaign, visit: www.unhcr.org/brighterlives
