Resources within UNHCR

Since 2008, the UN refugee agency has boosted its ability in Geneva and two regional centres - Panama City in Panama and Dakar in Senegal - to deliver quality livelihoods support for the forcibly displaced. The enhanced capacity, including extra staff, new products and training, is helping key operations and regions to define innovative and more strategic approaches to livelihoods programmes; explore and build effective partnerships with development and private sectors; resource their activities with appropriate expertise and fund-raising; strengthen and share fresh knowledge of livelihoods issues through field missions, knowledge management, training and e-networking.

A livelihoods expert roster, centred in Geneva, ensures rapid deployments of consultants qualified in multiple sub-sectors of livelihoods, for periods ranging from 4-12 weeks, to support field operations with assessments, strategy or project design, evaluations or other programming needs.
