Common ‘SENS’ Advantages

The advantages of a SENS nutrition survey are that it allows UNHCR and its partners to describe the situation of refugees with regards to nutrition in a standardised way from year to year and across countries with results being published in a short space of time, allowing UNHCR and partners to react swiftly to urgent problems.

By combining SENS results with other assessments like JAM or screening reports, monitoring and surveillance data from Health Information System and WASH monitoring, or nutrition programme data, we end up with a good description of that particular refugee context which will enable us to improve outcomes.

Conducting a SENS nutrition survey is an essential process in describing the nutritional health of refugees. By following the SENS report recommendations, UNHCR and partners are able to take appropriate action in seeking funding for and tailoring programmes to improve outcomes in these challenged populations.
