Purushottam’s Story, Nepal

I am Purushottam Prajapati, from Bhaktapur – ‘Nepal’s Cultural Capital’ known for its well-preserved temples and monuments. As a Senior Child Protection Assistant at UNHCR Sub-office Damak (eastern part of Nepal), I work with children in various difficult and challenging situations, including unaccompanied and separated children, children of alcohol-addicted parents, dysfunctional families, disabled parents, school dropouts, and marriage of minors – among others. Each situation is dealt with great care and attention, with intense individual case management, focusing on children-related programmes and counseling.
During my four years with UNHCR, I have witnessed positive changes in many children, after appropriate assistance was provided to them, which give me immense satisfaction. The work is challenging, but the smiles on the faces of the children motivate and inspire me to face any challenge, and bring happiness to these children.
